The India-Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme (Formerly known as Africa Scholarship Scheme) for the Academic year 2024-25.
Government of India through Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has offered Eighty (80) scholarships for students from Kenya to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses in India under The India-Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme (Formerly known as Africa Scholarship Scheme) for the Academic year 2024-25.
Applications from interested students are invited online through ICCR’s https://a2ascholarships.iccr.gov.in/ . Last date to apply is 31st May 2024.
Key highlights of the scholarship are as follows:-
Applicants have the option to apply to 5 Universities/Institutes in the order of their preference of study. List of 126 approved Universities/Institutes can be accessed on portal.
Each University/Institute have unique eligibility criteria for courses offered. Candidates are advised to visit respective websites of preferred Universities to acquaint themselves with course requirements before initiating application. Students may also refer to the University’s Handbook/University Grants Commission website at http://www.ugc.ac.in/.
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) is a mandatory requirement for engineering (BE/B.Tech) courses.
Applicants for Ph.D should upload Synopsis (proposal) of the research.
Admissions in Medical/Paramedical (Nursing/Physiotherapy/anesthesia etc./fashion/ law courses/ integrated courses such as BA.LLB (5 years) /B.Sc & M.Sc (5years) etc are not admissible under The India-Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme.
Applicants must be within the age bracket of 18-40 years for Undergraduate and Post-Graduate applicants, and 18 to 50 years for Ph.D candidates at the time of admission in Indian Universities/Institutes.
A 500-word Essay in English has been introduced to ascertain candidate’s English proficiency. Besides, applicants can also submit their TOFEL/IELTS etc. standardized Test scores, if available. Universities may also conduct separate online interviews for applicants, if so required.
Admission remains provisional till the time Universities verify the authenticity of original documents.
Students who have previously not availed ICCR scholarship will be given priority in the award of Scholarship.
Once the admission is confirmed by the relevant University in India, the High Commission of India in Nairobi will decide on award of Scholarship to the applicant and issue a letter of award of Scholarship. Decision of the Mission in award of Scholarship will be final.
Scholarship includes one return economy class air-fares to the airport nearest to the University/Institute. High Commission will book the air ticket and no student claims reimbursement of airfares.
Selected candidates will be required to procure a mandatory personal medical insurance valid in India with minimum sum assured for Indian Rupees Five Lakhs per annum (eqv. To US$6800) before traveling or on arrival in India from any insurance companies of their choice.
Selected students will be required to attend orientation/briefing at the High Commission of India, Education Wing before traveling to India.
